The 1st Meeting of ISDB-T International Forum

On September 21, 2009, the 1st Meeting of ISDB-T International Forum was held in Country Club Hotel Lima, in Lima, Peru. This event was hosted by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications of the Peruvian Government through the cooperation of the government of Brazil, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan (MIC), the Japanese Embassy in Lima, the Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB) and the Digital Broadcasting Experts Group (DiBEG).

At the opening session, Minister Cornejo, Minister of Transportation and Communications, Peru, gave a welcome address followed by addresses by Mr. Carlos Lisandro Salas, Secretary of Communications, Argentina, Mr. René Cortazar, Minister of Communications of Chile, Mr. Helio Costa, Minister of Communications, Brazil and Mr. Kazuhiro Haraguti, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan. Keynote speech was given by Mr. Alan García Pérez, President of Peru.

In the keynote speech, President García emphasized that the digital terrestrial broadcasting is the shortest path for Peruvian modernization and democratization. Also, he noted that by selecting one system for terrestrial broadcasting, all the Peruvian people will be able to view same quality of television in fair and equal manner, and will have new chance in the digital age.

During the forum, Ministers of the country that have adopted ISDB-T reached a consensus to strengthen collaboration in introducing ISDB-T and further increase in country adopting ISDB-T. Although it was not scheduled in the agenda, ministers of Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Japan signed “Lima Declaration” in the forum for the countries to cooperate in further development and penetration of ISDB-T.

From September 22 to 23, ARIB of Japan and SBTVD of Brazil co-hosted seminars for engineers for broadcasting field. More than 200 audiences attended the seminar. Also, along with the 1st Meeting of ISDB-T International Forum and the seminar, demonstration of ISDB-T technology, such as Hi-Definition broadcasting, reception with mobile phone or cheap STB, was displayed.
