Bolivia adopt ISDB-T as the standard of the digital terrestrial TV.

On Monday, 5 July, the government of Bolivia, through Foreign Minister David Choquehuanca, announced that it adopted ISDB-T as the standard of the digital terrestrial TV.

“The government considered the findings and transmission tests conducted in our country, and has therefore decided to opt for the standard Japanese-Brazilian digital terrestrial TV broadcasting,” said Choquehuanca during the signing ceremony of notes with the Ambassador of Japan, Kazuo Tanaka, for forest preservation and the promotion of projects for food production.

The Bolivian head of diplomacy said that the implementation of digital television will take at least two years and that Bolivia will have the cooperation of Japan in technology transfer and training of technicians.

He stated that the decision is official and working on an agreement between the two countries. “The adoption of Japanese digital TV standard in Brazil changes, called ISDB-T (Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting Terrestrial), compared with U.S. and European format, continues the trend of South American countries in this field” he said.

ISDB-T format, developed in Japan and amended in Brazil, was created in order to allow radio and television stations by digitization. In addition to streaming audio and video, ISDB-T also supports data connections.

He stressed that Bolivia has joined the group of countries on the continent who opted for this system, among which are Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Venezuela as well as Japan and Brazil.

Although not referred to the budget will be needed for implementation, nor the timetable of the process, said that in 2011 made the first tests.

He said the new television will improve the image, communication and provide interaction with the viewers at home can communicate with the channel and other users.
